EDITOR'S
NOTE JULY 2009
Summertime
on the Island is always my favorite time of the year. The beaches
are full of smiling faces having fun chasing waves, finding shells
or just getting sand between their toes!
I
find it amazing how many people visit Galveston Island to enjoy
what it has to offer. Those of us who live here know how fortunate
we are to enjoy it everyday.
I don’t
know what I would do without the wide open space, the Gulf breeze,
the beautiful colors of a sunrise or sunset, and especially the
Islanders! I consider myself so lucky to reside on this Island.
And yes, I am here by choice.
I hope everyone
gets to enjoy the things summertime brings like days at the beach,
movies on The Strand, boating and fishing, watching the wildlife,
taking in a sunset, Ohana’s surf camp, any of our attractions
and definitely the delicious places to dine!
Next month
we will be featuring the Best of Galveston 2009. Readers can vote
by mail using the ballot on page 66and through cyber space for their
favorites and we will tally the votes to bring you The Best! We
will be selecting three winners from all those who participated
in the contest. The winners will be featured in next month’s
issue too.
Also
this month we have a look at what is taking shape with one of Galveston’s
newest developments, Diamond Beach. It is promising to be as lavish
as any five-star Caribbean vacation resort vacation… except
that you’d actually be living there. And it’s located
at the Gateway to the Island’s West End.
Returning this month to The Islander Magazine is our monthly wine
selection written by Seth McCurry. It’s always nice to see
another comeback on the Island.
And if you are able, consider making a donation to the Ball High
Media Technology class for their hard work on the movie Ike: A Documentary.
Visit www.IkeDocumentary.com. I am proud they are taking it to many
film festivals.
Be sure to
check out our website. New content is featured through out the month
that didn’t make it to print. Also, please feel free to contact
us with any suggestions you may have to improve our site.
Be safe this
summer!
